History of Seekh Kebabs

Kebabs are originated from Middle East and are believed to be from 17th century due to presence of skewers at that time. Seekh kebab is a pakistani dish but brought out with a South Asian twist. Usually kebabs are non vegetarian but here we are presenting a vegetarian seekh kebabs recipe for the vegetarian food lovers because they too have the right to enjoy such mouth melting snacks. Seekh Kebabs isn’t it drooling just by the name and the pictures ? Check the recipe, make it yourself and don’t  forget to share the pictures with us.

Vegetarian seekh kebabs recipe

Ingredients required –
  1. 1 Tbsp ghee
  2. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  3. 1 and 1/2 Tbsp garlic, chopped
  4. 1 Tbsp ginger, chopped
  5. 2 large carrots, grated
  6. 1 cup beans, chopped
  7. 1/2 cup grated potatoes
  8. 1/2 tsp black pepper
  9. 5-6 almonds, crushed
  10. 1/2 cup khoya
  11. A handful of grated cheese
  12. 2 figs, chopped
  13. 1/2 1 cup roasted gram flour
  14. Salt as required

Method of making Seekh Kebabs in a vegetarian style

  1. Put desi ghee in the cooking pan. Add cumin seeds, garlic, ginger and saute till golden brown.
  2. Add carrots, beans, potatoes, black pepper and salt. Let it cook for about a couple of minutes.
  3. Then add almonds, khoya, grated cheese and figs.
  4. Now add roasted gram flour to make the mixture into a dough.
  5. Roll them to skewers or shape as shown in picture with your hands if you don’t have such skewers.
  6. Settle the dough on the tandoor rod for roasting and put it inside the tandoor.
  7. Once roasted, serve with tomato ketchup or mint and chilli chutney.

Note – We haven’t used skewers because it is a vegetarian version of seekh kebabs which gets cooked easily  compared to cooking time of meat. so the tough grilling process isn’t required.

I just hate seekh kebab, the feeling is so yuck… Can’t say anything more.. if your recipe makes it good, then good luck for your venture. And yes, Ghee is not advisable for fat people like me, any healthy alternative?

You can’t judge a recipe without trying it janab.
Respect food 🙂 if you don’t eat don’t call it yuck atleast.

And Ghee is good for bones, healthy only if you don’t overeat
