My experience of visiting Golden Temple Amritsar

September 7, 2018

If you want peace in life, visit Golden Temple Amritsar for once and see the punjabis dedicating themselves selflessly in the service of Babaji.

Golden Temple Amritsar is a natural remedy to healing.

We started off for our trip to Punjab early morning, It was a road trip with 4 members in Inova so whenever I got tired I slept in the back seat.We had lunch at a dhaba and the room was AC room but only for a showpiece. The guy didn’t switch it on, so I was sweating and went back to sleep after finishing the lunch in car.I slept till we entered Punjab.

Punjab is a state based on agriculture and there are tall trees on both the sides of the road so it makes the road trips comfortable and easy, acting as a cover from the sun rays. There were police vehicles on duty police at every 15-20 km at Punjab. We finally reached at our destination Amritsar at 8p.m in the night. I took a shower in the cold water and refreshed myself from the tiring trip. The water was so chilled that it brought me back the energy that I wasted during the day and instead of relaxing, we decided to visit the Golden Temple.

Golden Temple Amritsar- Visiting the temple was the only motive that I came on a business trip with my uncle. It was my dream from the childhood days and then I have watched and heard a lot about the place so I was excited to experience the place.

As we entered in the premises we saw Jalianwala Wala Bagh and guards guarding the place. Kids and women were selling toys, there were many shops selling the Punjabi handicrafts, suits and devotional songs played.

We kept on moving and as we entered in and submitted our shoes we got to know that it was a free service and people who offered services here got the chance after waiting for their number over an year and more.

We moved ahead and were sweating of humidity as we reached in, so we stopped at the side to drink water. Many devotees were offering chilled water on bowls and at the other side some devotees were cleaning the bowls immediately. The water facility was provided at every four corner of the temple.

As we entered we were asked to cover our head with the scarfs placed there and then put our feet in the holy water before entering inside. I felt calm as I entered in the cool water and moved ahead.

The first look of temple made me feel so relaxed and calm that my eyes were glued to it. I felt glitter inside my heart with the charm of the temple.

Golden Temple Amritsar
Peace and Prayers at one place – Golden Temple Amritsar

There was kirtan played in their local language and I visited all the four sides of temple with pilgrims and sat at the lake side once to feel the serenity of the place. I captured Lovely images of the temple. There were many other pilgrims so I couldn’t manage to click more pictures but then I didn’t want to miss Darshan inside the temple so I kept my phone and went inside.

Devotees were worshiping, some of them were cleaning the floor, coolers, fan and the railings of the temple. Everyone was at work. I did my prayers and watched all the three floors of the temple and seeked my blessings. I was astonished to see the devotees who were wiping the whole temple, there were ladies who sat at the sides and wiped and cleaned the golden flowers and big vessels. Everyone was quick in their work and within 10 minutes the whole temple shined like just built.

Langar is no doubt not for everyone. It is for those who are blessed. Around 50,000 of people sit here at once and eat at a place in a systematic order with the quick service offered by Punjabi devotees. Devotees also offer free services in chopping the vegetables and making the food ready. The kitchen is open for everyone for 24 hours and no one starves in the city Amritsar.

In the temple premises the visitors slept with their families and there were big coolers just cleaned and refilled. I was touched by the golden heart of Punjabis. Golden Temple of Amritsar is a temple in true sense and while I moved outside I wished from babaji to come back here soon.

Golden temple is holy. Golden temple is historic. It is the sanctum sanctorum of Sikhism. As recently in 1980s a battle was fought in the temple between militant Sikhs and Indian army. I love to visit the temple by morning Shatabdi, go and sit in the temple and return by evening train.

Nothing can beat the beautiful ambiance surrounding the temple. You are instantly taken into a different world with such kirtans and songs reverberating the place. The way devotees work round the clock and yes no one ever goes hungry there and food is there for everyone. A joy and a bliss that dawns on visiting the place.
